Raising finance

Springboard acted as lead advisor to Green Room, an award winning retail design practice on its development capital fundraising.

About the deal

Retail design practice Green Room focuses on the design and delivery of multi-channel retail experiences for some of the world’s most respected consumer brands such as Nike, The North Face and Mercedes Benz. The business is a true UK success story having grown its revenues and profits year on year since it was established in 2001 by entrepreneur Richard Ash.  Birmingham-based Green Room has recently opened a studio in Amsterdam, has another studio in London planned for later this year.

Green Room has secured investment from Finance Birmingham via its Mezzanine Fund to support continued growth.  As part of the transaction Steve Verrall, who joined Richard in 2009 as Non-Executive, has increased his investment.  He will now take on a broader role as Executive Chairman alongside Richard, who will continue in his role as Chief Executive.  Verrall is a well-known local businessman, having founded and sold a number of businesses including Birmingham-based Sirius Financial Systems.  He is also currently Chairman of Contract Fire and Security based in Sutton Coldfield.

How we made a difference

  • Worked with the shareholders to advise on a range of strategic and funding options;
  • Assisted the management team to develop a clear and compelling growth strategy;
  • Negotiated and structured the optimal funding package to suit the long term requirements of the business; and
  • Project managed the process to a successful completion.
